We’re Back… of sorts…

Well Merrell has a few things left on his plate so he will be absent for the next couple of weeks whilst he moves his life from one part of Texas to another.

Sooooo, in the interim I thought I could use the Molly forum for a little arts critique analysis. I am going to put together an analysis of the Harry Potter series as the books relate to the movies and where (in my humble opinion) they (the producers/directors) went wrong.

I will use a very successful book to movie translation as a comparison (namely the Lord of the Rings trilogy) to highlight my narrative critique.

While I am flying ’solo’ during these next couple of weeks I will cover topical news and give some of my random thoughts on the subjects (promise they won’t be too long winded as I want to concentrate on the HP analysis).

Since Molly Ivins was involved with arts and cultural issues (as well as her endeavors political) I thought I would take some creative license and cover what I think is a glaring problem with the Potter series from a movie standpoint. I will also draw corollaries between current (human/political) events and the HP series.

So for those who are Potter inclined hopefully you will find my podcast a little interesting.

Merrell WILL return. As soon as he has a nest to call his own…

[Producer Update… okay after careful  consideration and some well spent time examining what I was really going to do I realized the enormous amount of work involved if I wanted to do this critique justice.  Needless to say with the holiday season upon us time just wasn’t going to be too available. And I have Opera rehearsals around the corner… so, what I am left with is I am in contact with Merrell to pick up on our Molly podcasts as usual and see what we can put together. Stay tuned and I should have something up shortly…]

Private life issues have reared it’s ugly head so Merrell and I will be taking a small break in the podcasts as we rearrange and do some (really) early spring cleaning in our daily lives.

On a side (but related) note, I will be starting Opera rehearsals with the San Diego Opera… my first season so I really am anxious to get it started. I am cast in Tannhauser, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, and Aida. Promises to be ALOT of work but also great fun!

NEWS THIS WEEK @ MI -

The fiasco that was the Emmy’s - Censorship and tasteless jokes abound in this years Emmy awards. The ONLY thing the show had going for it was that old style Hollywood glamour was never better than this year! Sally Fields (’you like me, at this moment you REALLY LIKE ME’) said WHAT?! Quick cut to the non-lit and non-animated disco ball! How you only got the full version of the show IF you lived outside of the States!

As Americans sink further into the abyss that is Iraq, we seem to once again be turning our television watching hours to escapism drama and comedies. Smallville, Supernatural and Medium were only the beginning. Now we have ‘Pushing Up Daisies’ (a ghoulish dramedy), Journeyman (a reporter who moves back and forth in time to correct things in his time zone by changing things with strangers from his past), and a complete make-over of the Bionic Woman. Will ‘Heroes’ get ‘Lost’ in all of the new craziness… hmmm, listen in and find out! And what exactly is Torchwood?!

Lastly, it appears that American males are sorely lacking in personal hygiene when it comes to using the WC and washing up after. Hear the gruesome line up of what cities ranked as the worst places to shake hands in… Ewwww!

We ramble on this week on the above subjects for starters but it cuts across many topics: Policemen, Censorship, the disaster that is the Bush Administration, our REAL support for the troops (we whole - heartedly thank each and everyone of them)!

Merrell seems to have a head-cold so his sweet baritone voice is some what amiss this round. We all hope he gets better by next weeks episode.

Well I thought it time for my two cents, typing that is, as Max said even a raunchy headcold can’t keep me from talking.
In addition to the shows topics of censorship and such we start to touch on another subject which is close to my heart, BULLYS, this is something that at one time or another has probably affected us all and has become somewhat of a theme or “pet cause” in my life, I intend to delve more into this subject in future episodes, not just from the traditional point of view, but a deeper look at bulling, and they psychological disorders behind it, after all Bullys grow up and turn into ………. We have edited our sixth show! We will be uploading it later on tonight. This one was a bit of a rant on censorship and our current problems with this administration and the ‘war’. Though not to fear, there are a few lighter moments in this episode as well. We discuss the Emmy awards and what a fiasco it was… (this is where the censorship starts to rear its ugly head), and how America is still dealing with it Puritanical roots while other countries perceived by Americans as being prudish are the ones who are actually pushing the standards. Lately it seems like Americans are afraid of their own shadow… its all about fear. Well some of us are tired of the running in fear and are turning around and saying ‘enough!’.

Stay tuned later on tonight (pacific time) when we upload this weeks episode. Apologies for Merrell’s lower standard of voice… he was dealing with a rather nasty head cold. What a trouper to still go forward with the show!

Our musical feature this week : Strangers In Wonderland! One of the most absolute BRILLIANT groups out of Sweden! A dark/brooding ABBA (if you like) for our darker times! (ABBA aside, you can not deny that the Swedes are MASTERS of solid song writing. Something that ‘SIW’ solidifies with their current offerings.) This is the kind of music that hooks you deep and ties you down (in a good way!) and invades your soul and shakes you around a bit and you’re all the better for it! We can’t wait for you to hear them! Brilliant! Brilliant! BRILLIANT!
